Canada - CBC News in Manitoba, Canada published a report yesterday about police officers illegaly taping defendents and their lawyers conversations.
The article was on CBC's web pages as of yesterday but has since been removed. A search for the article was unsuccessful. A Hells Angels web site called the Real Deal News fortunately was able to see the article before it dissapeared .
According to the web site, Police Chief Jack Ewatski during a labor board arbitration hearing, stated that police officers may have committed criminal acts involving an investigation involving 5 members of the Hells Angels being held without bail for 26 months.
RealDealNews reports that during the hearing involving a grievance by six Winnipeg police officers put on administrative leave after allegations surfaced that they had information about a plot to kill a Winnipeg man, Kevin Tokarchuk, but failed to warn him or his family before he was killed.
Ewatski said officers may had videotaped privileged and private communication between a lawyers and their clients.
The case involving the 5 Hells Angels has been dropped because the prosecutions argument, which was based largely on the testimony of convicted felon Robert Coquete, was found to be unreliable.
Coquetes testimony was "essential on virtually every count" and when it was determined that he was unreliable, the crown was forced to release the bikers.
Legal action against the province has not been ruled out by the bikers defense lawyers.
