Taunton officials warn of fines for Outlaws proper
Friday, 01/14/05

Mass - A police officer this week hand-delivered a letter from the Building Department to property owner Alexandre Silva threatening fines if he does not comply with zoning laws.

This has been an ongoing battle between Silva and the city over the rezoning of his property which is currently being used by the Outlaws motorcycle club as a clubhouse.

A violation letter was sent to Silva by certified mail last month, but was returned to City Hall, so Zoning Enforcement Officer Roger J. Nascimento reissued the letter and had it delivered by a police officer.

Silva was issued a 21D ticket and a $100 fine and Nascimento wrote that failure to respond within 72 hours would result in a $300 fine per day.

Silva has recently picked up an application for a zoning variance but he reporteldy has not returned it.

City officials say the clubhouse is in violation of city zoning regulations because it is being used as a meetinghouse and possibly an apartment.

Because the building was previously used as a business, its current use as a clubhouse is an unauthorized change of use and requires a variance.
